Jenny Agutter trained at Elmhurst Ballet School. At the age of eleven she was cast as a young dancer in Walt Disney's film Ballerina. She first played Roberta in The Railway Children on television when she was fourteen and almost three years later, after filming Walkabout in Australia with Nicolas Roeg, Lionel Jeffries asked her to play the same role again in the film version. The following year she played Fritha in the BBC TV film of The Snow Goose with Richard Harris, for which she won an Emmy.
In 1973, Jenny joined the Royal National Theatre to play Miranda in Sir Peter Hall's production of The Tempest with Sir John Gielgud. Having spent a number of years doing theatre and television in Britain, Jenny went to Los Angeles. Films include: Logan's Run, The Eagle has Landed, An American Werewolf in London, Sweet William and Equus, for which she won a British Academy Award.
Jenny joined the Royal Shakespeare Company to play in King Lear, Edward Bond's Lear, and Arden of Faversham. She played Breaking the Code on Broadway with Derek Jacobi. In 1995 she went with the RSC to Tokyo and played the Princess of France in Love's Labours Lost. 1998 saw Jenny playing Mrs Darling in Peter Pan at The Royal National Theatre with Ian McKellen as Hook.
In 2000 Jenny returned to the story of The Railway Children, this time to
play Mother. Recent appearances include Equus in the West End with Daniel Radcliffe
and Richard Griffiths.
